TITLE: Netquery "host" Parameter Arbitrary Command Execution

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA16523

VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/16523/

CRITICAL: Highly critical

IMPACT: System access

WHERE: >From remote

SOFTWARE: Netquery 3.x http://secunia.com/product/5439/

DESCRIPTION: rgod has discovered a vulnerability in Netquery, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.

Input passed to the "host" parameter in nquser.php is not properly sanitised before being used as command line argument to the "dig" command. This can be exploited to inject arbitrary shell commands via the "|" character.

Successful exploitation requires that "magic_quotes_gpc" is disabled.

The vulnerability has been confirmed in version 3.11. Other versions may also be affected.

SOLUTION: Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised.

PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: rgod
