CRITICAL: Less critical

IMPACT: Privilege escalation

SOFTWARE: SMS 1.x http://secunia.com/product/5358/

DESCRIPTION: Eric Romang has reported a vulnerability in sms, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to perform certain actions on a vulnerable system with escalated privileges.

The vulnerability is caused due to two temporary files "/tmp/request1" and "/tmp/request2" being created insecurely by "contrib/miastoplusa/mpl.sh". This can be exploited via symlink attacks to create or overwrite arbitrary files with the privileges of the user running the affected script.

The vulnerability has been reported in versions 1.9.2m and prior.

SOLUTION: Update to version 2.0.3 or later.
