Description

TITLE: Chesapeake TFTP Server Directory Traversal and Denial of Service

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID: SA13033

VERIFY ADVISORY: http://secunia.com/advisories/13033/

CRITICAL: Moderately critical

IMPACT: Exposure of sensitive information, DoS, System access

WHERE: >From local network

SOFTWARE: Chesapeake TFTP Server 1.x http://secunia.com/product/4192/

DESCRIPTION: Luigi Auriemma has reported two vulnerabilities in Chesapeake TFTP Server, which can be exploited by malicious people to disclose sensitive information, potentially compromise a vulnerable system, and cause a DoS (Denial of Service).

1) An input validation error makes it possible to download and upload files from and to arbitrary locations outside the TFTP root via directory traversal attacks.

2) An input validation error in the handling of incoming UDP datagrams can be exploited to cause a DoS by sending an overly long UDP datagram larger than 514 bytes.

The vulnerabilities have been reported in version 1.0. Other versions may also be affected.

SOLUTION: The product is reported no longer supported. Users should therefore use another product.

PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY: Luigi Auriemma
