Summary:

EMC PowerPath vApp contains undocumented user accounts that may potentially be utilized by malicious users to gain limited unauthorized access to the system.

Details:

EMC PowerPath vApp enables the user accounts emcupdate and svcuser which were found to be undocumented and protected with default passwords. These accounts are restrictive in nature and may provide limited functionality to the attacker, such as accessing the system level information, in the event of unauthorized access.

Resolution:

The following EMC PowerPath vApp version does not contain the undocumented user accounts:
ā€¢ EMC PowerPath vApp 2.0

EMC strongly recommends all customers to upgrade to the above version at the earliest opportunity.

Customers who do not wish to upgrade can use the following instructions to remove the user accounts. These accounts are not required for product functionality.

  1. Login to the appliance as root
  2. Issue the following commands:
    userdel emcupdate
    userdel svcuser
