2.436 VLC vulnerability (CVE-2021-3185)

1. Vulnerability description:

Vulnerability in the implementation of the h264parse module developed by the GStreamer project (included in the gstreamer-plugins-bad set). The issue is caused by a buffer overflow in the gst_h264_slice_parse_dec_ref_pic_marking function and allows to organize its code execution when Gstreamer processes specially formatted data in H.264 format.Identifier of the Information Security Threats Data Bank of the FSTEC of Russia: BDU:2021-01189

2. Possible measures to eliminate the vulnerability

The user should refrain from opening files from untrusted third parties or using VLC player until the patch is applied. or - install security updates for package: vlcInstalling updates is possible in the following ways:**a) if the computer with the installed OS version has access to the vendor’s official repository, run the update as administrator with the command:# yum updateAfter the list of updated packages is displayed, agree to apply the updates by pressingY**on the keyboard. Wait until the updates installation is complete and make sure that there are no errors during their installation.b)If the computer with the installed OS version does not have access to the vendor’s official repository, you should perform the following actions: - download the updated package (and dependencies if necessary): http://repo.red-soft.ru/redos/7.2c/x86_64/updates/gstreamer1-plugins-bad-free-1.10.4-4.el7.x86_64.rpm http://repo.red-soft.ru/redos/7.2c/x86_64/updates/vlc-3.0.12-0.1.el7.x86_64.rpm Check the integrity and authenticity of the package according to instructionsInstall the downloaded package with the command:# yum localinstall *.rpmWhen the list of updated packages is displayed, agree to apply the updates by pressingY on the keyboard. Wait until the installation of the updates is complete and make sure that there are no errors during their installation.
