A vulnerability in the inter-process communication (IPC) channel of Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client could allow an authenticated, local attacker to execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges.
The vulnerability is due to unauthenticated IPC commands which allow software installation as root. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted IPC messages to install a malicious package. A successful exploit could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges.
Cisco has confirmed the vulnerability in a security notice; however, software updates are not available.
To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker must authenticate and have local access to the targeted system. These requirements may reduce the likelihood of a successful exploit.
Cisco indicates through the CVSS score that proof-of-concept code exists; however, the code is not known to be publicly available.
