This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of Microsoft Internet Explorer. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file.

The vulnerability relates to how Internet Explorer processes certain operations on HTML hr elements. Internet Explorer erroneously uses a VARIANT structure in memory before it has been properly initialized. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code under the context of the current process.
