The microsoft Skypexspaces subdomain and azure service is vulnerable to such typ \r\nof attacks. The dns answer cname performed by the azure app service leads to a takeover of the involved Skypexspaces subddomain.\r\n\r\nThe issue could allow an attacker to store something malicious by uploading a web page to make a pretty convincing phishing page \r\nor by running the browser with windows exploits through the application. The issue could allow an attacker to deface the microsoft \r\nSkypexspaces service web application and can lead to a web-server system compromise at the end. \r\n\r\nThe vulnerability is located in the dns configuration of the cname record that points skypexspaces.microsoft.com to skypexspaces.azurewebsites.net. \r\nAttackers can use microsoft.com domain name to create more effective attacks against users (Accounts & Windows operating system versions etc.).\r\n\r\nThe security risk of the vulnerability is estimated as high. Exploitation of the vulnerability requires a privileged web-application user account \r\nand medium user interaction. Successful exploitation of the vulnerability results in dns hijack and webserver or subdomain compromise.\r\n\r\nVulnerable Service(s):\r\n[+] skypexspaces.microsoft.com\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nProof of Concept (PoC):\r\n=======================\r\nThe dns vulnerability can be exploited by remote attackers with high privilege of the web-application and lhigh or medium user interaction.\r\nFor security demonstration or to reproduce the vulnerability follow the provided information and steps below to continue.\r\n\r\n\r\n--- PoC Session Logs ---\r\nskypexspaces.microsoft.com. 5\tIN\tCNAME skypexspaces.azurewebsites.net.\r\nskypexspaces.azurewebsites.net.\t5 IN\tCNAME\twaws-prod-sn1-135.vip.azurewebsites.windows.net.\r\nwaws-prod-sn1-135.vip.azurewebsites.windows.net. 5 IN CNAME waws-prod-sn1-135.cloudapp.net.\r\n\r\n\r\nSolution - Fix & Patch:\r\n=======================\r\n2018-01-09 : Vendor Fix/Patch (Microsoft Developer Team - Online Services)\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nSecurity Risk:\r\n==============\r\nThe security risk of dns squatting vulnerability in the microsoft skypexspaces web-service is estimated as high (CVSS 6.4).\r\n\r\n\r\nCredits & Authors:\r\n==================\r\nSaifAllah benMassaoud [saifmassaoudi18@gmail.com] - @benmassaou - https://www.vulnerability-lab.com/show.php?user=S.AbenMassaoud\r\n\r\n\r\nDisclaimer & Information:\r\n=========================\r\nThe information provided in this advisory is provided as it is without any warranty.
