bind9 is vulnerable to Assertion Failure. The vulnerability is due to assertion failure when the resolver receives a PTR (Pointer Record) query for an RFC 1918 address (a private IP address as defined by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) in nxdomain-redirect ; configuration. which leads to a denial-of-service situation, as named exits unexpectedly, affecting the availability and reliability of the DNS service.
