File Level Restore - FUSE mount is not supported on kernel versions 4.0.0-4.1.33.

This issue is related to a known kernel bug. As such, it will affect any version of Veeam Agent for Linux.

Challenge

When performing guest files recovery from a backup of a Linux machine that was using Linux Kernel versions 4.0.0 through 4.1.33, the restore fails to mount with the error:

FUSE mount is not supported on kernel versions 4.0.0-4.1.33. Upgrade the kernel and try again.

Cause

FUSE mounts on the mentioned kernels fail due to a known kernel bug, which was fixed in later kernel versions.

Solution

The general recommendation is to upgrade the kernel to a more recent version.

However, in some distributions, the fix was backported to those older kernels. In such a scenario, it is possible to force Veeam Agent for Linux to attempt the mount despite the detected kernel version:

**Note:**This will only work if, in fact, the kernel installed contains the backported solution for the known kernel bug.

1. Open the Veeam Agent for Linux global configuration file – ** /etc/veeam/veeam.ini**
2. Uncomment the line 'ignoreFuseBug' and change the value from 'false' to 'true', and save the file.

3. Restart the 'veeamservice' service to apply changes.
4. Retry the restore.
