Description

Two minor data breaches affected video game developers Square Enix (Final Fantasy) and Trion Worlds (Rift) late last year, allegedly spilling sensitive information from the company’s servers. The attack against Square Enix hit 1.8 million users – mostly North American and Japanese customers who signed up for the company’s “Square Enix Members” service. The company suspended the service and went on to claim the intruder was unable to access any information that was stolen. The hackers who hit Trion Worlds allegedly made off with a bit more: user names, encrypted passwords, dates of birth, email addresses, billing addresses, and the first and last four digits and expiration dates of customer credit cards.
