Description

Multiple VMware products are prone to a local privilege-escalation vulnerability. A local attacker can leverage this issue to gain administrator privileges on the machine. The following VMware products are affected: Workstation version 15.x is vulnerable Horizon View Agent version 7.x.x is vulnerable

Technologies Affected

  • VMWare Horizon View Agent 7.10.0
  • VMWare Horizon View Agent 7.5.0
  • VMWare Horizon View Agent 7.5.1
  • VMWare Workstation 15.0
  • VMWare Workstation 15.0.1
  • VMWare Workstation 15.0.2
  • VMWare Workstation 15.0.3
  • VMWare Workstation 15.0.4
  • VMWare Workstation 15.1.0

Recommendations

Permit local access for trusted individuals only. Where possible, use restricted environments and restricted shells.
Ensure that only trusted users have local, interactive access to affected computers.

Implement multiple redundant layers of security.
Since this issue may be leveraged to execute code, we recommend memory-protection schemes, such as non-executable stack/heap configurations and randomly mapped memory segments. This tactic may complicate exploits of memory-corruption vulnerabilities.

Updates are available. Please see the references or vendor advisory for more information.
