OnApp is prone to a remote command-execution vulnerability. Successfully exploiting this issue may allow an attacker to execute arbitrary commands with root privileges in the context of the affected server. OnApp versions 5.0 prior to 5.0.0-88, 5.1 through 5.4, 5.5 prior to 5.5.0-93, 5.6 through 5.10 and 6.0 prior to 6.0.0-196 are vulnerable.
Block external access at the network boundary, unless external parties require service.
Filter access to the affected computer at the network boundary if global access isn’t needed. Restricting access to only trusted computers and networks might greatly reduce the likelihood of a successful exploit.
Run all software as a nonprivileged user with minimal access rights.
To reduce the impact of latent vulnerabilities, always run nonadministrative software as an unprivileged user with minimal access rights.
Deploy network intrusion detection systems to monitor network traffic for malicious activity.
NIDS may detect and identify suspicious activity. Review and audit logs on a regular basis to identify attacks and breaches of policy.
Updates are available. Please see the references or vendor advisory for more information.
