Description

Vulnerability Description

A remote overflow exists in Oracle Database Server DBMS_INTERNAL_REPCAT package. The package fails to properly sanitize user input supplied to the GNAME parameter which is passed to the DISABLE_RECEIVER_TRACE procedure, ENABLE_RECEIVER_TRACE procedure, or VALIDATE procedure resulting in a buffer overflow. With a specially crafted request, an attacker can cause the execution of arbitrary code or crash the server resulting in a loss of integrity or availability.

Technical Description

This requires EXECUTE_CATALOG_ROLE or SYSDBA role access with execute permissions on the DBMS_INTERNAL_REPCAT package.

Solution Description

Currently, there are no known workarounds or upgrades to correct this issue. However, Oracle has released a patch (Patchset 4 (9.2.0.5)) to address this vulnerability.
