Vulnerability Description

A remote overflow exists in Oracle Database Server DBMS_REPCAT_RQ package. The package fails to properly check user supplied input to the SCHEMA_NAME parameter which is passed to the ADD_COLUMN procedure resulting in a buffer overflow. With a specially crafted request, an attacker can cause the execution of arbtirary code or crash the server resulting in a loss of integrity and availability>.

Technical Description

This requires SYSDBA role access with execute permissions on the DBMS_REPCAT_RQ package.

Solution Description

Currently, there are no known workarounds or upgrades to correct this issue. However, Oracle has released a patch (Patchset 4 (9.2.0.5)) to address this vulnerability.
