Perl is a high-level programming language with roots in C, sed, awk and shell scripting. Perl is good at
handling processes and files, and is especially good at handling text. Perl's hallmarks are practicality
and efficiency. While it is used to do a lot of different things, Perl's most common applications are
system administration utilities and web programming. A large proportion of the CGI scripts on the web are
written in Perl. You need the perl package installed on your system so that your system can handle Perl
    scripts.
Install this package if you want to program in Perl or enable your system to handle Perl scripts.
Security issues fixed with this release:
    CVE-2008-5302
Race condition in the rmtree function in File::Path 1.08 and 2.07 (lib/File/Path.pm) in Perl 5.8.8 and
5.10.0 allows local users to create arbitrary setuid binaries via a symlink attack, a different
vulnerability than CVE-2005-0448, CVE-2004-0452, and CVE-2008-2827. NOTE: this is a regression error
related to CVE-2005-0448. It is different from CVE-2008-5303 due to affected versions

CVE-2005-0448, CVE-2004-0452, and CVE-2008-2827. NOTE: this is a regression error related to

8.4 before 8.4.4, and 9.0 Beta before 9.0 Beta 2 does not properly restrict PL/perl procedures, which
might allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary Perl code via a crafted script, related to the Safe
    module (aka Safe.pm) for Perl.
