- Versions of the npm CLI prior to 6.14.6 are vulnerable to an information exposure vulnerability through
log files. The CLI supports URLs like
<protocol>://[<user>[:<password>]@]<hostname>[:<port>][:][/]<path>. The password value is not redacted
and is printed to stdout and also to any generated log files. (CVE-2020-15095)
- Node.js before 16.6.0, 14.17.4, and 12.22.4 is vulnerable to Remote Code Execution, XSS, Application
crashes due to missing input validation of host names returned by Domain Name Servers in Node.js dns
library which can lead to output of wrong hostnames (leading to Domain Hijacking) and injection
vulnerabilities in applications using the library. (CVE-2021-22931)
- If the Node.js https API was used incorrectly and undefined was in passed for the rejectUnauthorized
parameter, no error was returned and connections to servers with an expired certificate would have been
accepted. (CVE-2021-22939)
- Node.js before 16.6.1, 14.17.5, and 12.22.5 is vulnerable to a use after free attack where an attacker
might be able to exploit the memory corruption, to change process behavior. (CVE-2021-22940)
- The parser in accepts requests with a space (SP) right after the header name before the colon. This can
lead to HTTP Request Smuggling (HRS) in llhttp < v2.1.4 and < v6.0.6. (CVE-2021-22959)
- The parse function in llhttp < 2.1.4 and < 6.0.6. ignores chunk extensions when parsing the body of
chunked requests. This leads to HTTP Request Smuggling (HRS) under certain conditions. (CVE-2021-22960)
- ssri 5.2.2-8.0.0, fixed in 8.0.1, processes SRIs using a regular expression which is vulnerable to a
denial of service. Malicious SRIs could take an extremely long time to process, leading to denial of
service. This issue only affects consumers using the strict option. (CVE-2021-27290)
- ansi-regex is vulnerable to Inefficient Regular Expression Complexity (CVE-2021-3807)
- json-schema is vulnerable to Improperly Controlled Modification of Object Prototype Attributes ('Prototype
Pollution') (CVE-2021-3918)
- The npm ci command in npm 7.x and 8.x through 8.1.3 proceeds with an installation even if dependency
information in package-lock.json differs from package.json. This behavior is inconsistent with the
documentation, and makes it easier for attackers to install malware that was supposed to have been blocked
by an exact version match requirement in package-lock.json. NOTE: The npm team believes this is not a
vulnerability. It would require someone to socially engineer package.json which has different dependencies
than package-lock.json. That user would have to have file system or write access to change dependencies.
The npm team states preventing malicious actors from socially engineering or gaining file system access is
outside the scope of the npm CLI. (CVE-2021-43616)
- Accepting arbitrary Subject Alternative Name (SAN) types, unless a PKI is specifically defined to use a
particular SAN type, can result in bypassing name-constrained intermediates. Node.js < 12.22.9, < 14.18.3,
< 16.13.2, and < 17.3.1 was accepting URI SAN types, which PKIs are often not defined to use.
Additionally, when a protocol allows URI SANs, Node.js did not match the URI correctly.Versions of Node.js
with the fix for this disable the URI SAN type when checking a certificate against a hostname. This
behavior can be reverted through the --security-revert command-line option. (CVE-2021-44531)
- Node.js < 12.22.9, < 14.18.3, < 16.13.2, and < 17.3.1 converts SANs (Subject Alternative Names) to a
string format. It uses this string to check peer certificates against hostnames when validating
connections. The string format was subject to an injection vulnerability when name constraints were used
within a certificate chain, allowing the bypass of these name constraints.Versions of Node.js with the fix
for this escape SANs containing the problematic characters in order to prevent the injection. This
behavior can be reverted through the --security-revert command-line option. (CVE-2021-44532)
- Node.js < 12.22.9, < 14.18.3, < 16.13.2, and < 17.3.1 did not handle multi-value Relative Distinguished
Names correctly. Attackers could craft certificate subjects containing a single-value Relative
Distinguished Name that would be interpreted as a multi-value Relative Distinguished Name, for example, in
order to inject a Common Name that would allow bypassing the certificate subject verification.Affected
versions of Node.js that do not accept multi-value Relative Distinguished Names and are thus not
vulnerable to such attacks themselves. However, third-party code that uses node's ambiguous presentation
of certificate subjects may be vulnerable. (CVE-2021-44533)
- Due to the formatting logic of the console.table() function it was not safe to allow user controlled
input to be passed to the properties parameter while simultaneously passing a plain object with at least
one property as the first parameter, which could be __proto__. The prototype pollution has very limited
control, in that it only allows an empty string to be assigned to numerical keys of the object
prototype.Node.js >= 12.22.9, >= 14.18.3, >= 16.13.2, and >= 17.3.1 use a null protoype for the object
these properties are being assigned to. (CVE-2022-21824)
- A OS Command Injection vulnerability exists in Node.js versions <14.20.0, <16.20.0, <18.5.0 due to an
insufficient IsAllowedHost check that can easily be bypassed because IsIPAddress does not properly check
if an IP address is invalid before making DBS requests allowing rebinding attacks. (CVE-2022-32212)
- The llhttp parser <v14.20.1, <v16.17.1 and <v18.9.1 in the http module in Node.js does not correctly parse
and validate Transfer-Encoding headers and can lead to HTTP Request Smuggling (HRS). (CVE-2022-32213)
- The llhttp parser <v14.20.1, <v16.17.1 and <v18.9.1 in the http module in Node.js does not strictly use
the CRLF sequence to delimit HTTP requests. This can lead to HTTP Request Smuggling (HRS).
