A remote attacker could use this issue to cause curl to crash, resulting in a denial of service, or possibly execute arbitrary code (CVE-2018-0500). Zhaoyang Wu discovered that cURL, an URL transfer library, contains a buffer overflow in the NTLM authentication code triggered by passwords that exceed 2GB in length on 32bit systems (CVE-2018-14618). Phan Thanh discovered that curl incorrectly handled certain FTP paths. An attacker could use this to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code (CVE-2018-1000120). Dario Weisser discovered that curl incorrectly handled certain LDAP URLs. An attacker could possibly use this issue to cause a denial of service (CVE-2018-1000121). Max Dymond discovered that curl incorrectly handled certain RTSP data. An attacker could possibly use this to cause a denial of service or even to get access to sensitive data (CVE-2018-1000122). A heap-based buffer overflow can happen when closing down an FTP connection with very long server command replies. When doing FTP transfers, curl keeps a spare \"closure handle\" around internally that will be used when an FTP connection gets shut down since the original curl easy handle is then already removed. FTP server response data that gets cached from the original transfer might then be larger than the default buffer size (16 KB) allocated in the \"closure handle\", which can lead to a buffer overwrite. The contents and size of that overwrite is controllable by the server (CVE-2018-1000300). curl can be tricked into reading data beyond the end of a heap based buffer used to store downloaded content. When servers send RTSP responses back to curl, the data starts out with a set of headers. curl parses that data to separate it into a number of headers to deal with those appropriately and to find the end of the headers that signal the start of the \"body\" part. The function that splits up the response into headers is called \"Curl_http_readwrite_headers()\" and in situations where it can't find a single header in the buffer, it might end up leaving a pointer pointing into the buffer instead of to the start of the buffer which then later on may lead to an out of buffer read when code assumes that pointer points to a full buffer size worth of memory to use. This could potentially lead to information leakage but most likely a crash/denial of service for applications if a server triggers this flaw (CVE-2018-1000301). \n", "cvss3": {"exploitabilityScore": 3.9, "cvssV3": {"baseSeverity": "CRITICAL", "confidentialityImpact": "HIGH", "attackComplexity": "LOW", "scope": "UNCHANGED", "attackVector": "NETWORK", "availabilityImpact": "HIGH", "integrityImpact": "HIGH", "privilegesRequired": "NONE", "baseScore": 9.8, "vectorString": "CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H", "version": "3.0", "userInteraction": "NONE"}, "impactScore": 5.9}, "published": "2018-10-30T18:01:43", "type": "mageia", "title": "Updated curl packages fix security vulnerabilities\n", "bulletinFamily": "unix", "cvss2": {"severity": "HIGH", "exploitabilityScore": 10.0, "obtainAllPrivilege": false, "userInteractionRequired": false, "obtainOtherPrivilege": false, "cvssV2": {"accessComplexity": "LOW", "confidentialityImpact": "COMPLETE", "availabilityImpact": "COMPLETE", "integrityImpact": "COMPLETE", "baseScore": 10.0, "vectorString": "AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C", "version": "2.0", "accessVector": "NETWORK", "authentication": "NONE"}, "impactScore": 10.0, "acInsufInfo": false, "obtainUserPrivilege": false}, "cvelist": ["CVE-2018-0500", "CVE-2018-1000120", "CVE-2018-1000121", "CVE-2018-1000122", "CVE-2018-1000300", "CVE-2018-1000301", "CVE-2018-14618"], "modified": "2018-10-30T18:01:43", "id": "MGASA-2018-0423", "href": "https://advisories.mageia.org/MGASA-2018-0423.html", "cvss": {"score": 10.0, "vector": "AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C"}}], "ibm": [{"lastseen": "2023-02-24T01:39:06", "description": "## Summary\n\nMultiple Vulnerabilities in libCurl affects IBM Watson Studio Local\n\n## Vulnerability Details\n\n** CVEID: **[CVE-2019-5435](<https://vulners.com/cve/CVE-2019-5435>) \n** DESCRIPTION: **An integer overflow in curl's URL API results in a buffer overflow in libcurl 7.62.0 to and including 7.64.1. \nCVSS Base score: 7.3 \nCVSS Temporal Score: See: [ https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/161429](<https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/161429>) for the current score. \nCVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L)\n\n \n** CVEID: **[CVE-2019-5436](<https://vulners.com/cve/CVE-2019-5436>) \n** DESCRIPTION: **A heap buffer overflow in the TFTP receiving code allows for DoS or arbitrary code execution in libcurl versions 7.19.4 through 7.64.1. \nCVSS Base score: 6.3 \nCVSS Temporal Score: See: [ https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/161431](<https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/161431>) for the current score. \nCVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:A/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L)\n\n \n** CVEID: **[CVE-2018-16839](<https://vulners.com/cve/CVE-2018-16839>) \n** DESCRIPTION: **Curl versions 7.33.0 through 7.61.1 are vulnerable to a buffer overrun in the SASL authentication code that may lead to denial of service. \nCVSS Base score: 5.3 \nCVSS Temporal Score: See: [ https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/152298](<https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/152298>) for the current score. \nCVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L)\n\n \n** CVEID: **[CVE-2018-16840](<https://vulners.com/cve/CVE-2018-16840>) \n** DESCRIPTION: **A heap use-after-free flaw was found in curl versions from 7.59.0 through 7.61.1 in the code related to closing an easy handle. The internal function Curl_ntlm_core_mk_nt_hash multiplies the length of the password by two (SUM) to figure out how large temporary storage area to allocate from the heap. The length value is then subsequently used to iterate over the password and generate output into the allocated storage buffer. On systems with a 32 bit size_t, the math to calculate SUM triggers an integer overflow when the password length exceeds 2GB (2^31 bytes). This integer overflow usually causes a very small buffer to actually get allocated instead of the intended very huge one, making the use of that buffer end up in a heap buffer overflow. (This bug is almost identical to CVE-2017-8816.) \nCVSS Base score: 9.8 \nCVSS Temporal Score: See: [ https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/149359](<https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/149359>) for the current score. \nCVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H)\n\n \n** CVEID: **[CVE-2018-0500](<https://vulners.com/cve/CVE-2018-0500>) \n** DESCRIPTION: **Curl_smtp_escape_eob in lib/smtp.c in curl 7.54.1 to and including curl 7.60.0 has a heap-based buffer overflow that might be exploitable by an attacker who can control the data that curl transmits over SMTP with certain settings (i.e., use of a nonstandard --limit-rate argument or CURLOPT_BUFFERSIZE value). \nCVSS Base score: 9.8 \nCVSS Temporal Score: See: [ https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/146198](<https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/146198>) for the current score. \nCVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H) \n\n## Affected Products and Versions\n\nAffected Product(s)| Version(s) \n---|--- \nIBM Watson Studio - Local| 1.2.3 \n \n\n\n## Remediation/Fixes\n\nProduct| VRMF| Remediation/First Fix \n---|---|--- \nIBM Watson Studio Local| 2.1| <https://www.ibm.com/software/passportadvantage/pao_customer.html> \nIBM Cloud Pak for Data| 2.5| <https://www.ibm.com/software/passportadvantage/pao_customer.html> \n \n## Workarounds and Mitigations\n\nNone\n\n## ", "cvss3": {"exploitabilityScore": 3.9, "cvssV3": {"baseSeverity": "CRITICAL", "confidentialityImpact": "HIGH", "attackComplexity": "LOW", "scope": "UNCHANGED", "attackVector": "NETWORK", "availabilityImpact": "HIGH", "integrityImpact": "HIGH", "privilegesRequired": "NONE", "baseScore": 9.8, "vectorString": "CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H", "version": "3.0", "userInteraction": "NONE"}, "impactScore": 5.9}, "published": "2019-12-20T13:58:51", "type": "ibm", "title": "Security Bulletin: Multiple Vulnerabilities in libCurl affects IBM Watson Studio Local", "bulletinFamily": "software", "cvss2": {"severity": "HIGH", "exploitabilityScore": 10.0, "obtainAllPrivilege": false, "userInteractionRequired": false, "obtainOtherPrivilege": false, "cvssV2": {"accessComplexity": "LOW", "confidentialityImpact": "COMPLETE", "availabilityImpact": "COMPLETE", "integrityImpact": "COMPLETE", "baseScore": 10.0, "vectorString": "AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C", "version": "2.0", "accessVector": "NETWORK", "authentication": "NONE"}, "impactScore": 10.0, "acInsufInfo": false, "obtainUserPrivilege": false}, "cvelist": ["CVE-2017-8816", "CVE-2018-0500", "CVE-2018-1000300", "CVE-2018-1000301", "CVE-2018-14618", "CVE-2018-16839", "CVE-2018-16840", "CVE-2019-5435", "CVE-2019-5436"], "modified": "2019-12-20T13:58:51", "id": "874F8E6A5239ED9E35FE02AC8B09D496B7FEDA60C7FEFCF04B0223997BC26FBB", "href": "https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/1143490", "cvss": {"score": 10.0, "vector": "AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C"}}], "redhat": [{"lastseen": "2023-09-12T04:37:38", "description": "This release adds the new Apache HTTP Server 2.4.29 packages that are part\nof the JBoss Core Services offering.\n\nThis release serves as a replacement for Red Hat JBoss Core Services\nApache HTTP Server 2.4.23, and includes bug fixes and enhancements.
