OVERVIEW

Schneider Electric has identified a hard-coded credential vulnerability in Schneider Electric’s Pelco Digital Sentry Video Management System. Schneider Electric has produced a new firmware version to mitigate this vulnerability.

This vulnerability could be exploited remotely.

AFFECTED PRODUCTS

The following Pelco Digital Sentry Video Management System versions are affected:

  • Pelco Digital Sentry Video Management System, versions prior to Version 7.13

IMPACT

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow an attacker to gain access to execute code on the affected system.

BACKGROUND

Schneider Electric is a France-based company that maintains offices in 190 countries worldwide.

The affected product, Pelco Digital Sentry Video Management System, is a video recording system. According to Schneider Electric, Pelco Digital Sentry Video Management System is deployed across several sectors including Commercial Facilities. Schneider Electric estimates that these products are used worldwide.

MITIGATION

Schneider Electric has produced new firmware, Version 7.14, for the Pelco Digital Sentry Video Management System, which addresses the identified vulnerability. The new firmware, Version 7.14, is available on Pelco’s web site:

ICS-CERT recommends that users take defensive measures to minimize the risk of exploitation of these vulnerabilities. Specifically, users should:

  • Minimize network exposure for all control system devices and/or systems, and ensure that they are not accessible from the Internet.
  • Locate control system networks and remote devices behind firewalls, and isolate them from the business network.
  • When remote access is required, use secure methods, such as Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), recognizing that VPNs may have vulnerabilities and should be updated to the most current version available. Also recognize that VPN is only as secure as the connected devices.
