Security Bulletin: Multiple vulnerabilities in IBM Java Runtime affect Rational Directory Server (Tivoli) and Rational Directory Administrator (CVE-2016-5554, CVE-2016-5542)

Summary

There are multiple vulnerabilities in IBM® Runtime Environment that are used by IBM Rational Directory Server (Tivoli) and IBM Rational Directory Administrator. These issues were disclosed as part of the IBM Java SDK updates in October 2016. New product iFixes do not include the JRE. Install an updated JRE and a new iFix to resolve these issues.

Affected Products and Versions

Rational Directory Server (Tivoli) v5.2.1 iFix 8 and earlier
Rational Directory Administrator v6.0.0.2 iFix 3 and earlier

Remediation/Fixes

Upgrade to Rational Directory Server (Tivoli) version 5.2.1 iFix 9, and Rational Directory Administrator v6.0.0.2 iFix 4, which do not include Java. These releases have been modified to prevent these vulnerabilities. If you installed one of these versions previously, download it and install it again.

• Rational Directory Server (Tivoli) Interim Fix 9 for 5.2.1
• Rational Directory Administrator Interim Fix 4 for 6.0.0.2

Before installing the new iFixes, install one of the following:

• Java Runtime Environment, Version 6R1 Service Refresh 8 Fix Pack 35 and subsequent releases
• Java Runtime Environment, Version 7R1 Service Refresh 3 Fix Pack 60 and subsequent releases
• Java Runtime Environment, Version 8 Service Refresh 3 Fix Pack 20 and subsequent releases

To obtain the updated version of the IBM JRE, contact IBM Support. Support can help identify the latest JRE that is compatible with your operating system and platform. Publicly available versions of the Oracle JRE are also supported with Rational Directory Server.

For versions for Rational Directory Server that are earlier than version 5.2.1, and Rational Directory Administrator 6.0.0.2, IBM recommends upgrading to a fixed, supported version/release/platform of the product.
