Security Bulletin: Multiple vulnerabilities in IBM Java Runtime affect IBM SPSS Analytic Server (CVE-2015-4872, CVE-2015-4734 , CVE-2015-5006, CVE-2015-7575)

Summary

There are multiple vulnerabilities in IBM® Runtime Environment Java™ Technology Edition, Versions 1.6 and 1.7 that is used by IBM SPSS Analytic Server. These issues were disclosed as part of the IBM Java SDK updates in October 2015 and includes the vulnerability commonly referred to as “SLOTH”.

You should verify applying this fix does not cause any compatibility issue in your environment.

If you change the default setting after applying the fix, you will expose yourself to the attack described above. IBM recommends that you review your entire environment to identify other areas where you have enabled the Diffie-Hellman key-exchange protocol used in TLS and take appropriate mitigation and remediation actions.

Workarounds and Mitigations

For CVE-2015-7575:

Users of Java 7 and later (SPSS Analytic Server 2.0.0.0) can address the issue by updating the /jre/lib/security/java.security file as follows (both steps are required):

• Add MD5 to the jdk.certpath.disabledAlgorithms property - e.g. jdk.certpath.disabledAlgorithms=MD2, RSA keySize < 1024, MD5 * Add MD5withRSA to the jdk.tls.disabledAlgorithms property - e.g. jdk.tls.disabledAlgorithms=SSLv3, RC4, DH keySize < 768,MD5withRSA
  Java 6 (SPSS Analytic Server 1.0.1.0) requires code changes in the JSSE component in addition to the java.security file modifications, so upgrading the JDK is the only solution.
