Summary

  • Cisco Security has detected significant activity related to spam email messages that claim to contain a bank payment notification for the recipient. The email message attempts to convince the recipient to open the attachment and view the details. However, the .zip attachment contains a malicious .exe file that, when executed, attempts to infect the system with malicious code.

Email messages that are related to this threat (RuleID9862) may contain the following files:

remit1.exe

The remit1.exe in the remit1.zip file has a file size of 1,277,435 bytes. The MD5 checksum, which is a unique identifier of the executable, is the following string: 0xD3B3AA167A756EAF16B14B7B33F29944

Message Body:

Hello,
So sorry for the late response, it was due to logistics on the complexity of your payment. We have however resolved
the 70% installmental payments of your fees, the balance 30% will be paid in 72 Hours from today.
Kindly find attached the swift remittance copies of your payment and confirm from your bank its reflection into your
account.**
