A vulnerability in Apple Mac OS X AFP server may allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial-of-service condition on an affected system.
The AFP (Apple Filing Protocol) service allows Apple Mac OS clients to remotely access files from a server. Apple’s Mac OS X AFP server contains an unspecified integer overflow that can be exploited by a remote authenticated user to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial-of-service condition by crashing the affected service. Apple states that any Mac OS X system with AFP server enabled is vulnerable; however, AFP server is not enabled by default on Apple Mac OS X.
A remote authenticated attacker may be able to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial-of-service condition by crashing the service. The attacker-supplied code would be executed with system privileges.
